WASHINGTON, D.C. – In another step to bolster Democratic prospects to win back the House of Representatives, the National Committee for an Effective Congress (NCEC) has endorsed Katie Sean Casten for Congress in Illinois’ 6th Congressional District, providing the campaign with it’s detailed precinct targeting to augment the campaign’s vital voter turnout operation.

This endorsement marks the 25th candidate that the organization – celebrating its 70th year – has supported this November. NCEC President Eric Hawkins suggested that the organization is focused on “supporting progressive, talented candidates who are running in top-tier or 2nd-tier contests.”

Democratic candidate Katie Porter has strong progressive credentials, as a consumer protection attorney she has spent much of the last two decades fighting powerful interests and Wall Street banks on behalf of consumers and families. In 2012, future Senator Kamala Harris appointed Katie to be California’s watchdog against the banks. During her tenure, Katie ensured that the banks paid billions to homeowners they cheated during and after the financial crisis. Thanks to her leadership, Katie’s team secured over $18 billion from the banks, helping tens of thousands of families move forward with their lives.

Hawkins said that Porter’s unabashed progressive record makes her a perfect candidate for the organization to support. “It’s great to see candidates in competitive districts taking strong positions on the issues facing our country, we’re going to need bold leaders to move the nation forward, and supporting candidates like Katie is what the NCEC is all about.”

The National Committee for an Effective Congress has been working to elect progressive Democrats for nearly 70 years, and the push to counter Donald Trump and his right-wing allies has already begun.
